Police made no arrests at this year’s Rewind Festival despite widespread reports of thefts from revellers’ tents over the weekend.
A family from Glenrothes claimed they had more than £2,500, plus three mobile phones, stolen from their tents last Friday.
Debbie Munro, 34, said she had saved £1,200 to go to Rewind but was devastated to find it had all been stolen, and called for better security at the ’80s musical extravaganza.
She also claimed her mother had £700 taken and her sister lost £650.
“I woke up at 6.15am on Saturday when a woman was shouting that she had been broken into and had two phones stolen and also £700,” she said.
“That was when I noticed my purse lying open empty. I had £1,200 taken, my mum lost £700 and my sister had £650 taken.”
She added: “It’s scary to think it happened while we were asleep in our tents that’s the worst bit.”
Ms Munro said she would return to Rewind, but is calling for stricter security in future.
Two other women from the north-east of Scotland also claimed the were targeted by thieves, losing £1,500 of goods including cash and mobile phones.
Fiona Simpson of Oldmeldrum said she came face-to-face with a man in her tent around 3am.
She added: “I know heaps of people were affected by thefts.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division confirmed no arrests had been made over the weekend.
They said: “Two people were charged with breach of the peace offences but not arrested. There were seven incidents of thefts from tents, with the total amount of money involved in the hundreds of pounds.
“The items included were money, wallets, mobile phones and car keys.
“In addition, one bicycle was stolen.”
This was the fifth time Rewind had been held at Scone Palace.
The event at the palace on the outskirts of Perth attracted around 35,000 people and received widespread praise for its party atmosphere.
The organisers of the festival had failed to respond to a request for comment at the time of going to press.
