A Perth street was transformed at the weekend in a colourful celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Two archway entrances to St John Street created a “welcome to Chinatown” gateway to the festivities.
The celebration of the year of the monkey got under way at midday on Saturday with a parade of Chinese lions along High Street, making their way to the stage on St John Street.
Once officially opened, large crowds gathered for entertainment including songs, a kung fu demonstration, dance, tai chi and games.
The day drew to a close later in the afternoon with a spectacular and noisy finale of Chinese fire crackers.
Despite the rain shoppers stopped in large numbers to watch the displays on the pedestrianised street.
The celebrations will continue today at Perth High School where pupils will take part in various activities including calligraphy, while a Chinese dragon will visit the school.
