A Perth teenager undertook a self-imposed alcohol ban after drunkenly attacking two police officers, the city’s sheriff court heard.
Nicolle Williamson used the “dry-athlon” to raise cash for a cancer charity because she was so “mortified by the offence”. Williamson had spent New Year’s Eve downing shots and wine with friends and soon found herself “out of her depth”.
However, her evening had an abrupt and less-than-happy ending when police officers attended at her home. She then bit PC Evan Macdonald on the arm and kicked his colleague, PC Louise Robertson on the legs.
The 19-year-old hotel worker, of Field of Refuge in Comrie, admitted assaulting the two police officers at her home on December 31 last year.
Solicitor David Sinclair said: “She over-consumed alcohol on the night in question and was clearly out of her depth.
“Miss Williamson was mortified by the offence and has since abstained from alcohol, even setting up a sponsored dry-athlon to raise funds for cancer research.”
Sheriff Fiona Tait told Williamson it was “to her credit” that she had taken steps to address the reasons for the offence. She added, however, that given the seriousness of the offence, it was impossible to consider admonition.
Instead, the sheriff ordered Williamson to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.
