An osprey nest will have to be moved to make room for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying birds at this year’s T in the Park.
Festival organisers DF Concerts believe they will be granted permission for the festival to take place at Strathallan this year after being forced to moved from Balado because of safety concerns.
Part of their application for the festival includes moving an osprey nest away from the festival site to another location within the 1,000 acre site.
Ospreys return to the same nest year after year.
However, they often choose man-made structures, such as mobile telephone masts, as nest sites which means many nests have to be moved.
This usually happens when the birds are away over winter and involves creating a space for an alternative site where a nest can be built nearby.
A festival spokeswoman said they are in discussion with the RSPB, Scottish National Heritage and other osprey experts about how to move the nest without unduly upsetting the birds.
She said: “The advice we have been given is that there is no reason the ospreys could not continue to successfully rear young on the estate with T in the Park there.
“The young are likely to have either fledged or they will be about to fledge by the time the event takes place.”
An RSPB spokeswoman said: “We are still debating it at the moment and are planning to submit our formal response to the council on Tuesday.”
It was initially thought that T in the Park could run with a permitted development and a public entertainment licence but the discovery of osprey at the estate meant a formal planning application and full environmental statement is required.
Perth and Kinross Council is expected to make its decision in April.
