Man threatened to burn staff after being banned from hostel
ByThe Courier Reporter
A 40-year-old man who threatened to burn a staff member of a Perth homeless hostel has been ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work.
Elias Sayarh, of Logie Crescent, made the threat when he was banned from Greyfriars Hostel on Princes Street after being caught with alcohol in his bedroom.
He was said to have consumed at least a bottle of whisky in his room before being discovered. The hostel operates a strict no tolerance policy to drugs or alcohol.
Sayarh admitted making the threat on August 24 after repeated attempts to get back in the hostel were blocked. His solicitor told Sheriff William Wood that it was not an act he would have carried out.
