Swimming lesson prices are set to soar across Perthshire as leisure centres bosses set out their strategy to battle fresh budget cuts.
Live Active Leisure said it had been forced to raise costs and slash opening hours to cope with “significant challenges resulting from a very difficult economic climate”.
The standalone, not-for-profit company said it had to take action after a reduction in its contract with Perth and Kinross Council.
Among the changes, Perth Leisure Pool will close from 5pm on Sundays from July 5, while the Community School at Auchterarder will remain open for clubs and regular sports bookings, but will close to the public from April 20.
There will be a 10 per cent increase on the cost of activities for pre-school and school-age children, including swimming lessons.
A spokeswoman said: “Going forward, LAL will keep reviewing aspects of services as it continues to focus available resources where greatest impact and community benefit can be realised.
“Additionally, the year ahead will see only a number of selective increases in charges rather than ‘across the board’ as LAL seeks to continue to ensure great value for money.”
From May 1, 10p will be added to sport hall charges while there will be an extra 50p for fitness classes, gyms and other similar activities.
