John Swinney, MSP for North Tayside, has given his support to Perth becoming Scotland’s first living wage city.
The Deputy First Minister echoed the comments from his SNP colleague, Pete Wishart, who has called for the initiative to take place.
The move has been boosted by Perth-based Volpa PR securing their living wage accreditation.
Mr Swinney said: “This is a very worthwhile initiative and I have no hesitation in backing Mr Wishart’s campaign to have Perth recognised as Scotland’s first living wage city.
“The Scottish Government has announced its six-point plan for fair work and we will work with employers across Scotland to support the roll-out of the living wage.
“As a local MSP, I know Perth is ideally placed to lead the way on the living wage and I am confident that this can be secured.”
Mr Wishart said: “We are now seeing businesses from across the city securing living wage accreditation and supporting this initiative.
“Most of our largest employers are already living wage employers and the challenge is to turn this momentum into action.
“I am certain that we will soon be able to secure this title and it will be to the credit of the Perth business community when we do.”
