Scotland’s largest environment body was left mopping up after a lorry left the M90 motorway and ended up in a field on its side, spilling oil near Loch Leven in Kinross-shire.
Representatives from SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) were at Gairneybank Farm after the HGV had gone off the motorway, through a fence and into the field, off the B996 Gairneybridge to Kinross road, around 1pm.
The lorry driver was uninjured as a result of the incident, which closed the B996 road in both directions. SEPA later confirmed there was no notable damage to the environment.
A police spokesperson said: “An HGV had gone off the M90 at junction six on to the B996 road, went through a fence and landed in a field. A large quantity of oil was pouring from the vehicle.
John Harris of SEPA added: “It would appear the only leak has been of engine oil and the fire service has placed booms in a nearby burn to contain any that leaks to prevent it moving down to Loch Leven.”
