A man who stole a £38,000 Mercedes Benz from a Perth showroom has been jailed for a year.
Gordon Jackson, 28, of Churchill Drive, Peterhead, admitted stealing the vehicle from the Arnold Clark Kia garage at Inveralmond Industrial Estate, Perth, on May 16 last year.
Solicitor Tony Burgess said Jackson had “overdosed” on stealing fast and expensive cars.
Mr Burgess said: “This case is part of a resolution of wider matters. Mr Jackson was given a five-year period of imprisonment, reduced to four years. He was addicted to house-breaking, car theft and the driving of big, fast, colourful cars. As a result of this, come the end of June 2014, he had effectively overdosed.
“His efforts at trying to atone for his offending behaviour was to resolve matters without the need to go to trial. He wants to move on and away from a life of criminality.”
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “What I am dealing with here is the theft of a high-value motor vehicle. At the time of the offence I suspect it was less than a year old. There was certainly some thinking and planning behind your actions.”
Sheriff Foulis stated Jackson’s 12-month sentence will run consecutively to his previous convictions.
