A manor house with its own golf course has come on the market in time for the start of The Open at St Andrews.
Tower of Lethendy is a 16th Century building north of Perth, 35 miles from the Home of Golf.
However, potential buyers face the handicap of a hefty price tag the property is on the market for offers of more than £4.6 million.
Its par-57 golf course is maintained by a full-time greenkeeper and has eight tee blocks and six greens.
For sports fans who prefer Wimbledon to a “good walk spoiled” there are both grass and clay tennis courts.
Evelyn Channing, for selling agents Savills, said the property was a unique opportunity.
“It’s very rare for something like this to come on the market,” she said.
“Not many properties come with their own 18-hole golf courses, though the tees and greens are shared.
“Additionally, it has great access to Gleneagles and St Andrews, with all the golf courses there.
“The grounds are immaculately kept and there is a full-time greenkeeper and gardeners.
“It is a very private property and is in a very pretty part of Perthshire.”
The original Laird’s house dates to about 1570 and a three-storey tower was added in 1678. A B-listed Victorian creation has also been incorporated.
Built using local red sandstone and designed in the Scottish Baronial style characteristic of the period, the home features an array of turrets, towers, oriel windows and crow-stepped gables.
Twenty years ago the interior of the eight-bedroomed mansion was overhauled in a two-year project.
Also included in the sale are two gate lodges, two staff cottages, an estate workshop, a greenhouse and a swimming pool cabana. The 39-acre grounds are home to a heated outdoor swimming pool, a croquet lawn and a woodland garden, through which a small burn flows to a sunken pond.
A walled garden protects apple, pear and plum trees, redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes and a variety of flowers.
