Tributes have been paid to Dave Scott, former deputy provost of Perth and Kinross and ex-councillor for the Tulloch ward of Perth, who died at the weekend after a long illness.
Described as a “legend in Perth politics,” Mr Scott had stood down from council work in November last year due to ill health.
He had latterly been one of the representatives of the Perth City North ward.
Mr Scott became unwell in 2011 and was unable to attend any public engagements due to his illness.
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, said he believed the SNP group in Perthshire “owes a great debt of gratitude” to Mr Scott.
“Dave Scott was a legend in Perth politics and he will be remembered with great fondness by all who met him,” he said.
“A larger-than-life character, his passing will leave a big hole in the lives of those who loved him the most.
“He had been unwell for some time but it is a real shock to learn that he is no longer with us.”
Roseanna Cunningham, MSP for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, said: “Dave was a real stalwart of the SNP in Perthshire and he will be truly missed by those who worked with him, those he represented and indeed those he jousted with in the council chamber.
“His local community of Tulloch was very dear to him and I know he counted it as a great privilege to be able to represent them on the council for as long as he did.
“Anyone who ever canvassed with Dave or, indeed, just tried to walk the length of the High Street by his side, was very soon aware how well known and widely liked he was.
“Dave was a kind and caring man.”
Councillor Ian Miller, leader of Perth and Kinross Council, said: “Everyone at Perth and Kinross Council is saddened to hear this news.
“Dave Scott was a dedicated servant to his local community, and to the council, for many years. He was very well respected and liked by everyone who worked with him.”
Councillor Archie MacLellan, head of the Labour party with Perth and Kinross Council, said he wanted to “express his sorrow” at the news.
“Dave was a councillor for a long time and held a number of posts in the council. He was a great colleague to work with and made significant contributions to several issues, particularly housing.”
Perth City North councillor Elspeth Maclachlan described Mr Scott as “a force of nature” who could not do enough for people.
“Dave was an institution in Tulloch everyone loved him,” she said.
