Crown post offices in Perth and Dundee will be closed for four days as unions escalate strike action in response to the announcement Perth will be franchised.
Action will take place on Saturday and Tuesday which, combined with the Monday bank holiday, will mean four days of closure at the large Crown offices in Perth and Dundee city centres.
None of the sub-post offices in the cities will be affected by the action.
Tony Sneddon, local spokesman for the Communication Workers Union, said the action would be concentrated in Perth because of the recent decision announced that it will be franchised before March next year.
He said: “Our thoughts are with our members in Perth. The public have been very supportive and we are disappointed to have to take this action.”
The Post Office said it was “extremely disappointed” by the action.Saturday’s Courier newspaper suggested all post offices in Perth and Dundee will be closed. This is not the case and we apologise for any confusion.
