Sightings of ‘upset’ girl in Blairgowrie a false alarm, say police

Police say an investigation into reports of a distressed young girl wandering alone in Blairgowrie was a well-intentioned false alarm

Although no children were reported missing in the town, separate sightings on Tuesday of the youngster possibly aged only five led to concerns for her welfare.

Police appealed for information after reports of a girl in “an apparently upset state” near Live Active Blairgowrie on Beeches Road.

The girl was described as being aged around five or six and was seen by a member of the public at around 9.20am, apparently on her own near the recreation centre.

Another sighting of a similarly-described girl on the footpath at the rear of Newhill Primary School between 9.20 and 9.30am was also received by the police.

Today, officers confirmed the investigation had been closed.

A spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a call about concern for a child in Blairgowrie yesterday was a false alarm with good intent.”
