Football fans have been urged to be on their best behaviour at the clash between St Johnstone and Celtic.
Following two days of speculation, the Perth club has confirmed that flags and banners will be allowed into McDiarmid Park. The decision to reverse the ban which had been announced at the weekend was taken following a series of high-level meetings on Monday and Tuesday.
There had been fears flags or banners could be used to help secrete flares or other potentially dangerous pyrotechnics.
The waters were muddied when a spokesman at Celtic claimed the ban was lifted on Monday, but this led to confusion with neither Police Scotland nor officials at St Johnstone able to confirm the position.
It later transpired the Glasgow giants had made the claim after mistakenly liaising with representatives from Inverness Caledonian Thistle rather than St Johnstone.
With speculation and rumour rife, a statement posted on the Perth club’s website on Tuesday finally cleared things up.
It said: “Further discussion has taken place between all parties and a request from the clubs made to Police Scotland that the ban be lifted has been accepted.
“The two clubs are now putting their faith in all supporters that they shall supporttheir respective teams in a manner which befits what should be a great game.”
The club also warned spectators that offensive banners or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and that a “rigorous” search policy will be in place.
