Well-heeled adventurers are being invited to follow in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg while supporting a Perth-based charity.
Participants will fly halfway around the world as a member-sponsor of a Round the World in 80 Days sky voyage benefitting two life-saving causes Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) and SickKids Foundation of Toronto.
The venture, which takes to the sky this May, will take in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, Polynesia, the US, Central and South America and Canada before finishing up back in Perth exactly 80 days after setting off.
The round-the-world flight has been organised by Dave McElroy, chairman of the Scottish Aero Club, and Chris Elgar of Burlington, Ontario.
Pilots and non-pilots alike will have the chance to fly as either co-pilot or passenger in the single-engine Piper Comanche with Dave McElroy, who recently retired as vice-president of Stirlingshire-based wood panel manufacturer Norbord Europe Ltd.
Canada-born McElroy, a well-qualified pilot with more than 40 years’ experience, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a love of flying and a quest for adventure.
“It’s a genuine once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel the world as never before, and a great opportunity to raise funds for two worthwhile causes.”
