A Tayside musician who taught generations of pupils at schools in Dundee and Perth has died after a long battle against illness.
Michael Gerard McBride was the son of Thomas and Isabella McBride.
He is survived by his sister Sheila and brothers Kenneth and Andrew.
He was educated at Lawside Academy in Dundee and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow, studying piano and voice.
He inherited his musical gift from his father, who Mike, or The Maestro as he was known, rated the most talented organist he had ever heard.
His father was organist and choirmaster in St Andrew’s Cathedral and Mike began playing there as a young boy. He was director of music there for many years.
He began his teaching career in St Michael’s Secondary before moving to St Columba’s in Perth.
He was then appointed head of music at St John’s High School in Dundee, a post he held until he took early retirement in the late 1990s.
