The T in the Park application for Strathallan Castle in Perthshire has been discussed at Holyrood.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Claire Baker said: “Clearly this is at a planning stage with Perth and Kinross Council and a decision is due to be made next month.
“It is up to the council to make the decision based on the facts before them, but we should today recognise the social, cultural and economic importance of the festival and…I recognise the previous good environmental record at the Balado site which was the only UK festival to be awarded the Green festival award for seven years running.”
Joan McAlpine, MSP for South Scotland, told Tuesday’s session: “As members may be aware, plans to relocate the festival this year from its traditional home in Balado to a new venue at Strathallan Castle were in doubt when rare birds were found nesting near the site.
“Happily it now seems likely that the event may be able to go ahead as the experienced team have made clear they will adhere to environmental conditions to ensure the safety of the birds.”
