A fundraising effort is being made in memory of a tragic Perth mother who died last month at the age of 28.
Lydia MacDonald was found dead in her flat in Lickley Court, Perth, on June 10, following an asthma attack, with her toddler son Mason believed to have been at her side for around two days.
Her funeral was held at Perth Crematorium on June 19, when mourners heard that Lydia had a “big heart” and whose son “was her life”.
It is been revealed that a fundraising campaign has begun, with proceeds going to the Asthma Research Charity and into a bank account for Mason.
Perth takeaway owner Pete Chan has been asked to carry out the fundraising by Lydia’s mother, Linda, and money has already started pouring in.
On Facebook, Mr Chan said: “I am often asked to help with many causes and charities and, as a parent and a child, this sad story moved me emotionally, as I had learnt that Mason had lost his father previously, too.
“I had a short but emotional conversation with Lydia’s mother, Linda. She asked me if I would be kind enough to help in her fundraising efforts.
“Linda wishes to raise funds for the Asthma Research Charity, in loving memory of her daughter. I first informed her I would be delighted and honoured to help. I also told her that her daughter was often a patron of my takeaway and that myself and a few others had been thinking of doing something for the wee boy. After informing her of my idea, I could sense there was a wee smile at the end of the phone.
“The monies we raise will not only help research but, just as touchingly, can provide young Mason with a gift during Christmases and birthdays each year where normally his parents would have.
“Wouldn’t it be beautiful as a community to pull together and be able to bring sunshine into this little person’s life, having appreciated how much he has suffered before and what he will have to be told, as he begins to comprehend life matters.
“In my mind, money can’t buy the unconditional love a loving parent has to offer a child. But what it can do is put a smile on this special little man’s face when he will, in time, have reasons not to smile.”
