Council banking £230,000 a year from Perth car park deal
ByJamie Buchan
Perth and Kinross Council makes nearly £230,000 a year from the profits of a highly controversial city-centre car park, it has emerged.
The local authority has always insisted it has no direct agreement with Smart Parking over its multi-storey facility on Kinnoull Street but The Courier can today reveal details of a “profit-sharing” arrangement between the council and the site’s owners.
The car park has been at the centre of a bitter row since it introduced a new payment system in February.
Politicians say they have been inundated with complaints about the site and the tactics operators use to chase up outstanding parking penalties.
MSP Murdo Fraser accused the council of “washing their hands” of the problem while “quietly banking the profits”.
