Lorry driver trapped after accident on A9 near Pitlochry

A lorry driver had to be freed from his vehicle by firefighters after becoming stuck in snow on the A9.

The HGV came to grief about a mile north of Pitlochry, causing lengthy tailbacks.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.20pm.

A fire service spokeswoman confirmed that a crew from Pitlochry used specialist cutting gear to remove the lorry’s windscreen.

Other fire teams were called, but it was decided they were not required.

A spokesman for Police Scotland added: “The articulated lorry appears to have been stuck in an icy patch at the Dalwhinnie turn-off, on the southbound lane of the A9.

“Bear Scotland have been advised and gritters are going to try to grit around the vehicle and get it going. It has been snowing quite heavily on this stretch in the afternoon.”

It is understood a second lorry has also become stuck in the queuing traffic.
