Stirling Council has unveiled its new CCTV policy.
The statement has been created in partnership with the police and the Forth Valley CCTV Partnership.
The policy outlines 10 objectives to govern the use of CTV, including the need to protect areas and premises used by the public, deterring crime and anti-social behaviour and helping to catch criminals.
The policy statement also contains safeguards and a regulatory framework to stop the systems being used inappropriately.
For the first time, the council and the public willbe able to find out how effective the cameras are information that can help the authorities to make better decisions about how CCTV cameras are placed.
Speaking about the changes, Martin Earl, convener of the public safety sub-committee which has a remit for crime performance in the Stirling District area, said: “This policy ensures CCTV is used effectively in the right locations to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
“The policy also has very clear definitions of what CCTV can and cannot be used for.
“We need an active and flexible partnership with the police to make sure these cameras are where they will be the most effective.”
