East Bridge in Perth has been reopened to traffic following the successful demolition of a nearby building that was deemed unsafe.
The road, also known as Lochie Brae, had been closed for around a fortnight in the interests of “public safety”. Contractors appointed by Perth and Kinross Council began razing the properties last month, ending an almost year-long saga.
The problem with the building first arose in December last year, when a damaged supportingwall was brought to the attention of the local authority and a lengthy chain of events was set in motion.
Residents had to be evacuated and were forced to seek new homes.
A spokesman for the council said that minor repairs to footpaths would be necessary following the demolition of the block and that these will be carried out as soon as possible.
Road gullies were being cleared yesterday to remove any debris generated by the demolition work.
