Biotech entrepreneur buys Dalmunzie Castle hotel for £1 million

A Perthshire castle has been snapped up for a knock-down price of £1 million.

Dalmunzie Castle Hotel in Blairgowrie was placed on the market more than a year ago for offers in excess of £1.4m.

It has now been bought by Dr Roger Aston, a scientist and seasoned biotechnology entrepreneur based in Australia.

He is understood to be considering a major investment programme to ensure Dalmunzie remains one of Scotland’s prime hotels.

Although it is under new ownership, the 17-bedroom hotel will remain under the management of Nick Jefford and Jennifer Gleeson.

Set in its own grounds in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, the property is situated among the magnificent scenery of Glen Shee.

Originally built in 1884, it is a unique Baronial-style property with many fine features, including candle snuffer turrets.

It is also adjacent to the Dr Alastair MacKenzie-designed nine-hole golf course.

Ken Sims, from Edinburgh-based agents Christie and Co, said: “There was substantial interest from UK and overseas buyers.

“Demand for this type of business exceeds supply, which is encouraging for the hospitality industry.”
