Athletics star Eilidh Child married long-term partner Brian Doyle at a tartan-themed wedding at the weekend.

Better known for sprinting towards the finish line, the Perth-born 400m hurdler walked down the aisle at Glenskirlie Castle in Banknock, near Falkirk.

The European 400m hurdles champion was watched by fellow athlete Lee McConnell as she tied the knot.

But the real guest of honour was Eilidh and Brian’s beloved rottweiler, Ben.

The couple’s prized pet donned a tartan scarf as he was led into the castle by Eilidh’s father Ronnie.

Eilidh, 28, won gold at the 2013 European Championships in Gothenburg before following up with silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last year.

And she revealed the couple had opted to stay traditional and have a Scottish theme to their wedding.

The day included a Robert Burns poem in the ceremony and mostly tartan fashion, with even some thistles in the bouquet as well.

Around 85 guests attended the ceremony to see Eilidh wow Irishman Brian, a former 400m runner, in a stunning ivory embellished gown.

Eilidh said: “I’ve got all my friends and family here, it’s just been great having everybody I love in the one place as that doesn’t happen very often.”

Team Scotland wrote on Twitter: “Best wishes to Commonwealth, World and European medallist Eilidh Child on her wedding day have a truly magical day.”

Eilidh has vowed to get back into training when she returns from her 10-day honeymoon in the Maldives, which starts on Thursday.

Her main focus is next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Eilidh added: “After I come back from my honeymoon I have about a week off then I’m just straight back to Bath where I train.”
