Claims Kinross is being ‘raped’ in local authority buildings row

Council chiefs were accused of effectively “raping” Kinross over a spat concerning local authority-owned buildings.

Councillor Dave Cuthbert, one of the representatives of the Kinross-shire ward, told members of Perth and Kinross Council’s property sub- committee that he feels Scone is getting “away with blue murder” in terms of having land allocated for social housing.

The Independent councillor claimed when the old Kinross High School building was knocked down, the council decided its playing fields could not be used, but different rules seem to apply to Scone.

He hit out during a discussion on the council seeking authority for the transfer of the former Glebe School site and also of Birchwood House in Scone to their housing revenue account.

Mr Cuthbert said: “The council have raped Kinross.

“We have council buildings that have been left empty and vandalised with rats in some of them.

“As a representative for Kinross, I feel somewhat aggrieved.

“We had buildings in Kinross that were deemed surplus to requirements at the same time as these two in Scone.

“The Kinross community wanted these buildings to be used for another purpose.

“Both Kinross and Scone have the same unmet demand for social housing but when the new Kinross High was built the council stated no one could use the playing field at the old school, yet the one at Glebe School can be used in the future.

“They have raped Kinross we’ve been left with nothing.”

However, Councillor Alan Grant hit back and told Mr Cuthbert that “each site” has to be taken on its own merits.
