The princapal of Kilgraston School in Bridge of Earn, Frank Thompson, is to leave next month.
Formerly deputy head of Mount St Mary’s College in Derbyshire, Mr Thompson, 47, took up his post in September 2012. Parents, pupils and staff were informed of his decision on Monday.
Tim Hall, chairman of the board of governors, said: “After running Kilgraston for nearly two years, Frank Thompson has decided to return south to pursue other educational opportunities.
“While we are sad to see his departure, we thank Frank for his service and wish him and his family well for the future. Frank will be leaving us at the end of this Easter term.
“At this time, continuity and stability for our girls, their parents and staff is paramount and we have acted swiftly to ensure that strong interim leadership is in place. Deputy head Carol Ann Lund will become acting principal in the summer term, with other key roles ably managed by our experienced senior management team.
“The governing board will be closely involved in ensuring this period of transition is effectively handled. The trustees and governors have already started the process of seeking a new head.”
Mr Thompson said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Kilgraston. It truly is a wonderful place.
“Being part of a community with such energy and enthusiasm has been a privilege and I am sad to have to announce that, due to personal and family reasons, I must step down at the end of this term.
“I would like to thank all my colleagues, parents, governors and members of the local community who have worked with me over the past two years to sustain and develop the school.
“I want to thank everyone for their support over this time and wish you all, and especially the girls of the school, every success in the future.”
Kilgraston, established in 1930, is an independent boarding and day school for girls. It is a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, linking some 200 schools and colleges worldwide. There are 317 girls on the roll.
