An Auchterarder man is set to stand trial accused of conning customers out of thousands of pounds by pretending to be an internet retailer.
Roger Wallace, 29, High Street, denied scamming 11 customers out of almost £15,000 for a variety of motor scooters and motorcycles when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.
Wallace is charged with pretending to be a bona fide internet retailer advertising and offering goods for sale on a website.
He is accused of scamming 11 customers out of varying amounts of cash at an address in Burnside Square, Balbeggie, between August 2012 and December 2012.
Wallace faces charges that he pretended to the various customers that he would deliver to them, upon payment, a motor scooter, and did induce them to make payment to him for the vehicle.
It is claimed Wallace thereafter failed to supply the motor scooters and obtained the money by fraud.
Wallace is accused of scamming the customers out of various sums of money, including £1,495, £2,025, £2,495 and £500, as payment.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Wallace, who indicated that he wanted to represent himself, that his liberty was in jeopardy and he would face a maximum sentence of two years in prison if he were found guilty.
The case was deferred until May for a further intermediate diet.
