With winter just around the corner, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has announced details of its latest programme.
The new season begins with the return of a much-loved classic and one of the most popular plays in the history of the Theatre in the Hills.
Following a 10-year absence, The Steamie will be back on stage at Pitlochry for a three-week run from October 24.
Regarded as one of Scotland’s best comedies, it depicts life in 1950s Glasgow and focuses on four women eager to get their washing done before the bells on Hogmanay.
Perth-based director Ken Alexander will be at the helm, following on from his success with Whisky Galore A Musical.
As the festive season approaches, the Theatre will launch this year’s Christmas production, led by the creative team behind last year’s hit, White Christmas. Director John Durnin, musical director Jon Beales and choreographer Christ Stuart-Wilson will showcase a musical adaptation of It’s A Wonderful Life.
The theatre has already taken thousands of bookings and people are being urged to secure their tickets now.
As part of efforts to ensure audiences across Scotland can enjoy the performances on offer, Pitlochry Festival Theatre has formed a partnership with coach operator Rabbie’s.
Scheduled trips will leave from Tay Street in Perth and Stirling railway station, as well as locations in Edinburgh and Glasgow, for The Steamie and It’s a Wonderful Life.
Meanwhile, the New Year will begin with another firm favourite: the annual Winter Words Festival. It will mark its 10th anniversary with a slight change in programming, moving to a later slot of February 14 to 23. The full programme will be announced in December but previous guests have included ex-leader of the Liberal Democrats Paddy Ashdown, Time Team presenter Tony Robinson, British Paralympic medallist Karen Darke and broadcaster James Naughtie.
Other highlights of the new season at Pitlochry Festival Theatre will include the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, a performance of Pirates of Penzance by Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society and an appearance by the award-winning Scottish folk band Mnran.
There will also be a number of Active Arts workshops, including willow weaving, drawing, digital photography and painting.
