A parking attendant has been ticketed by colleagues after failing to move his car to allow double yellow lines to be painted.
Signs warning of the imminent parking suspension and yellow no-parking cones were placed along Gannochy Road in Perth on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday afternoon, two cars a black Audi A4 Cabriolet and a green Audi A4 estate, remained parked on the street.
Bemused residents watched as workers were forced to paint around the vehicles before continuing the lines down the road.
Both cars were immediately slapped with fines by council parking attendants. The gaps in the lines have now been filled in after the workers returned to the site.
When contacted by The Courier, the parking attendant refused to comment on the situation, but a source close to him said he was “raging” and claimed no notice had been given of the impending works.
Residents on the street said warning signs and cones were put up the day before work began and they were given notification of the works by letter several months ago.
One criticised the warden for breaking the traffic rules he is paid to uphold. They said the situation “didn’t surprise” them.
“Ever since they came here they’ve parked awkwardly,” they said.
“We were all informed, we got paperwork. We’ve been expecting it for some time. The lines had to go down because parking was a nightmare.
“For someone who is a traffic warden to behave like that on a traffic issue is indefensible.”
Other residents described the situation as “silly” and “funny”. The driver of the second Audi said he intended to appeal his ticket and questioned the need for double yellow lines on that stretch of road.
He said: “It’s a bit annoying I came back last night and the signs were there. I don’t want to park my car away from the house because I can’t keep an eye on it.
“I don’t understand why it’s double yellows single lines with a time restriction would have been better.
“It’s not residents who park here during the day, it’s people working in the town they walk down the brae because there’s free parking at this end of town.”
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council refused to comment on whether or not the warden faced disciplinary action.
