A man punched a drink-driver because of the death of a relative of his girlfriend, Perth Sheriff Court has heard.
Neil Payne, 24, of Perth Road, Dunning, broke a bone in the man’s face in the assault. He had been drinking in the same pub as his victim when he became aware that the man had driven away in a car.
Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson said: “The accused later set about the complainer by punching him on the head, leaving the man with a broken cheekbone.
“The man was told to leave it to heal by itself,” added Mr Richardson.
Solicitor Graham Harding, defending, explained why Payne was so angered by the other man’s actions. He said that his client heard a car “revving” in a street in Dunning and realised that it was the accused.
“My client tried to stop this man from driving as his girlfriend had a cousin who was knocked down by a drink-driver and died.”
Payne admitted that on August 11 at Roman Gate, Dunning, he assaulted a man by punching him on the head. He also admitted that on the same date and location he broke the rear light of a car by kicking it.
Sheriff Fiona Tait fined Payne £500 on Wedneday and imposed a compensation order of £300 for the damage to the car.
