A dead man found in a Perth flat may have lain undiscovered for up to three weeks, it has been claimed.
It is understood police were called to the Pomarium Flats on Tuesday afternoon after neighbours noticed an unpleasant smell coming from his home.
Police confirmed they attended at the property but would not release any further details.
Those living in the block said they were shocked by the death of the man, named locally as Jason Taylor.
Mary Mitchell, who runs the tenants’ association, said it was “sad” his disappearance had not been noted sooner.
“Nobody deserves to die the way he died,” the 66-year-old said. Seemingly he had been lying there for weeks it’s so sad.
“I am gutted that he’s been found the way he was found and that he had lain that long without people knowing.
“If I had known what I know now, I would have been up investigating matters but he was the sort of person that you would see two or three times in a fortnight but then wouldn’t see him for ages.
“If I’d known something was wrong I would have contacted the police.”
She said he had previously received regular visits from social workers but this had stopped some time ago.
“I think he should have had social workers looking in on him,” she said.
“He needed protection, I don’t think he was very well. I think he’s been let down by the authorities.”
She added: “He was a very polite man, he spoke very nicely.
“I don’t think he would have harmed a fly. I will be going to his funeral.”
She said it was the second death at the block in the last three months.
Margaret Craig, 79, was found collapsed in her property with her faithful dog by her side.
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: “Police were knocking at the door last night asking when we saw him last I hadn’t seen him in a fortnight.”
Another added: “I’m shocked. You don’t want these things happening so near by.”
A spokeswoman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We are sorry to learn of the death of one of our residents and extend our condolences to the family.
“Whilst we are unable to comment on individual cases, our teams work in partnership to ensure that vulnerable residents within our communities are provided with a high standard of care and support where this is needed however, in some instances, residents choose to decline the support that is offered.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We attended at Pomarium Street, Perth, at 3.35pm on Tuesday March 10 following the sudden death of a man.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and inquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”
