He said: “Sadly people from Perthshire are amongst those who have lost their lives or suffered serious injury. In addition, most people who have travelled on the A9 will have seen unsafe driving manoeuvres.
“The Scottish Government’s commitment to dual the route between Inverness and Perth will have a big impact on safety, as well as journey times, but it is a big project that cannot be completed overnight.
“In the meantime, introducing average speed cameras should help to reduce some of the more dangerous driving that many of us have witnessed on the A9.
“Average speed cameras have made a big impact in reducing serious incidents on the M77 and I hope that we will see a similar impact on the A9 with improved driver and passenger confidence in the route.”
