Perthshire Trilby Tour challenges ‘gentleman’ golfers
ByNews reporter
One of the UK’s top amateur golf tournaments came to Perthshire yesterday with a packed field of rather dapper players taking to the course at Murrayshall.
Created by menswear designer and golf aficionado William Hunt of Saville Row, the Trilby Tour aims to find the country’s best amateur golfer and give them a chance to play against big names.
Players are offered the chance to feel like a golf tour pro for a day, as nine clubs from across England, Ireland and Scotland stage regional championships, which this year are being televised on Sky Sports.
The amateurs take part in a thrilling one-day 18-hole game in what has been described as golf’s answer to Twenty20 cricket.
Murrayshall was among the venues yesterday, with players hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner and runner-up, who have already turned professional.
