Scotrail is running a late night train service to Perth during the Edinburgh festivals for the first time and is also running an extended late night train to Fife for the event.
The new late night service to Perth will run six nights a week for the duration of the festivals. In previous years the train terminated at Glenrothes.
It will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 23.19 Mondays-Saturdays from this Saturday until Thursday, September 1, and will call at Markinch and Ladybank, benefiting festival-goers who live in Fife.
It has been extended following requests to ScotRail by Murdo Fraser, the MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, to review festival services to and from Perth.
Mr Fraser said, “The Edinburgh Festival is the biggest in the world and is great for the whole of Scotland.
“It is welcome news that ScotRail is putting on extra train services during August so that festival-goers from Perth have more choice in travelling to and from Edinburgh during the Edinburgh festivals.”
“ScotRail has been putting on extra late-night train services for Fife and the central belt during the festival for several years and these services have been a great success.
“This will be the first time that Perth will benefit from extra festival train services and it is excellent news.”
The Friday night late service to Inverkeithing from Edinburgh during the festivals will now be extended to Kirkcaldy.
The train to Kirkcaldy will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 23.52 on August 12, 19 and 26.
The service will also call at Haymarket, South Gyle, Dalmeny and North Queensferry.
ScotRail will also be providing more carriages on many existing services as well as extra trains for customers in Fife for the Bank of Scotland Fireworks on September 4.
Glasgow and North Berwick will also have additional services during the festival.
