A man has died following a crash between a lorry and a car on the A9.
The incident occurred at 7.50am just north of the slip road at Ballinluig and caused traffic chaos with traffic travelling north forced to divert.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was fatally injured in the crash.
Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance attended the incident but was not required to take anyone to hospital.
The road north was closed in its entirety by the crash and the southbound carriageway was restricted during the landing and taking off of the helicopter.
The road was not fully reopened until around 2pm.
A rapid response unit and ambulance from Pitlochry also attended the accident.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a man was fatally injured following a serious road traffic collision involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a DAF lorry at a layby on the A9, approximately one mile north of the Aberfeldy junction, near Ballinluig.
“The driver of the lorry was shocked but uninjured.
“The A9 northbound is currently closed whilst officers at the scene carry out investigations into the full circumstances of the incident. Local diversions are in place and motorists are advised that delays will be likely on the A9 near Ballinluig whilst enquiries continue.”
Motorists faced a detour of up to 60 miles to reach Pitlochry from the south, driving a series of back roads from Dunkeld.
