Murder squad detectives have charged a man after the death of a 44-year-old east Perthshire man following an incident outside a pub in Blairgowrie.
Named as James Simpson, the service manager, who worked at Agricar Ltd in Perth, was found seriously injured outside the Crown Bar, Wellmeadow, at around 11.45pm on Sunday.
Mr Simpson, known as “Peem,” was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, where it was confirmed that he was dead a short time later.
A 25-year-old man will appear at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Neighbours in the quiet hamlet where Mr Simpson’s family live, near the former Moorfield House Hotel, expressed their shock. When approached by The Courier, relatives declined to comment.
Forensic officers were outside the pub on Monday, studying a pool of blood left on the road. People who were at the pub were kept in by police until around 4am to give statements, according to some locals.
A woman who works in the Wellmeadow, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as a “tragedy.”
