Former Tayside Police Chief Inspector Bob Palmer has died aged 81.
Mr Palmer, of Callander, was born in Perth and educated at Craigie School and Perth Academy.
His first job was in a sub post office before his national service in the RAF in 1950. When he returned two years later he joined Perth County Police and did his initial training in Callander.
Mr Palmer later moved to Burrelton before being transferred to the Perth headquarters.
He married Carol in 1955 and they lived in Scone for eight years. Mr Palmer served in Aberfeldy and Abernethy before coming back to Perth in the 1970s. He rose through the ranks over the years and retired in 1982.
Mr Palmer moved to Callander and became branch secretary of the National Farmers’ Union, West Perthshire. He always had an interest in farming and served an area stretching from Dunblane to Crianlarich, retiring in 1988.
Mr Palmer is survived by wife Carol, daughters Carol and Alison and two granddaughters.
