Mystery still surrounds the sighting of a “dishevelled and muddy” man on farmland near Perth in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police are keen to establish the man is safe and well after he was seen on boggy ground at Kirkton of Mailer. The sighting, at 12.40am, was near an oxbow lake known locally as the Dead Water.
The waterway once formed a loop of the River Earn. Officers believe the man may have been taking a short cut through the area in an effort to get to the south side of the water and possibly to the Forgandenny area.
They are appealing for anyone who is aware of a friend or relative who arrived home in the early hours of Sunday, perhaps a little dishevelled and muddy, to contact the Tayside Division.
The man is described as being in his early twenties and was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. A search of the area on Sunday, involving emergency services and a search and rescue helicopter, failed to find the man.
Officers were back in the Kirkton of Mailer, Craigend and Forgandenny areas carrying out further inquiries in an effort to identify the man and ensure he is safe and well.
Anyone who can assist inquiries should call Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer.
