A major step forward has been taken in the mammoth project that aims to finally tame Scotland’s deadliest road.
For many years, campaigners have called for action on the A9 between Perth and Inverness, with the 113 miles considered by many to be the nation’s most dangerous.
Now the long-awaited dualling is finally approaching and the Scottish Government has called on businesses to make it a reality.
The £3 billion dualling of the stretch in its entirety is one of the country’s biggest infrastructure projects. Businesses have now been offered three multi-million pound design contracts to take forward the programme.
The contracts cover stretches of road from Birnam to Glen Garry, from Glen Garry to Dalraddy and from Dalraddy to Inverness. Each is worth £40 million-£60 million and offer the prospect of steady work over the next 12 years for the three successful bidders.
