Perth man fined after football row led to pub assault

A dispute over football led to a man being struck on the head with a glass tumbler in a bar.
Perth Sheriff Court heard how Robert Young, 31, of Glenfarg Terrace, Perth, made “derogatory” remarks to a man outside a Perth kebab shop.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodanable said the man then went to Dickens Bar, but Young came into the pub carrying an empty tumbler and struck it over the man’s head before running off.
“Fortunately there was no laceration and medical treatment wasn’t needed,” he said.
Solicitor Paul Ralph, defending, said his client had been on a Christmas night out when “there was some argument about football”.
Young admitted that on December 22 at South Methven Street, Perth, he assaulted a man by striking him on the head with a glass tumbler.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher sentenced Young to a community payback order in which he has to carry out 300 hours’ unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of £1,000.
