Scotland’s heatwave has left Courier Country “tinder dry” and residents must beware, firefighters have warned.
Group manager Rab Middlemiss of Perth Community Fire Station urged people to beware of discarding cigarettes and drinks bottles due to the fire risk they could pose.
Crews spent much of Sunday at Perth’s Noah’s Ark Caravan Park after several tonnes of manure and compost caught alight and threatened to spread to surrounding woods and footpaths.
“We are unsure exactly what started this fire but I’d like to remind the public to beware of things like discarding glass bottles and cigarettes,” Mr Middlemiss said.
“The area is tinder dry at the moment and fires such as this can tie up resources for many hours.”
A council digger was diverted from T in the Park to the scene to turn over the manure.
Without that support, firefighters said they could have been on the scene for “a number of extra hours”.
