A Perth man who punched his victim to the ground and kicked him in the face was sentenced to four months in jail.
Aaron de Schafta, 20, of Newhouse Road, pleaded guilty to the assault at a previous hearing and was sentenced at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodonable told the court de Schafta and the other man were associates and had been talking in the street before the incident.
He said the man suffered a lacerated cheek but had declined medical treatment.
De Schafta’s defence agent said alcohol was a factor in the incident, which was sparked by a comment about his mother, who died of an alcohol-related condition last year.
He said de Schafta was on a community payback order that included supervision to help with his alcohol issues.
Sheriff Fletcher told de Schafta: “You not only punched this man but kicked him in the face, which is extremely dangerous, and I don’t think I can overlook that assault.
“Fortunately for you, his injuries were not that serious, but I can’t deal with this any other way than a custodial sentence.”
