A Perth man attacked a supporter of a witness in a criminal case against him as they waited to be called.
Derek Bachelor, 43, of Newhouse Road, was due to stand trial for breach of the peace and vandalism when he entered the witness room, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
His daughter and her boyfriend were waiting to give evidence and had been accompanied by her mother and her mother’s partner, Michael Cooper, who was the victim of the assault.
Depute fiscal Carol Whyte said Bachelor had been granted bail on the condition that he did not approach witnesses, but on November 15 he looked into the witness room, saw them there and went in.
He punched Mr Cooper on the head and struck him in the eye, leaving him with a scratched cornea, which required antibiotics.
The trial then had to be adjourned because the witnesses were unable to give evidence.
Bachelor pleaded guilty to approaching the witnesses and to the assault.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher deferred sentence on Bachelor until August 19 while a social work report is prepared.
