Scotland’s largest ski resort says it still needs more snow before it can open its doors for the busy winter season.
Snowboarders and skiers are champing at the bit to get on to the slopes at Glenshee.
But last night ski centre staff said, despite heavy snowfall throughout the week, there was not enough of the white stuff lying on the ground.
Volunteers were out checking the state of the centre’s hills and its 25 miles of piste runs.
A spokesman said it was “very unlikely” they would be able to open for business this weekend.
“We are all ready to go as soon as we get some more snow,” he said.
“Everything else is in place, but we really need the weather to continue the way it has been for a few more days yet.
“We’re getting a lot of snow lying around the buildings, but it is still very thin on the hills where we want it.”
He said: “The forecast is quite good for us, so we might be able to open sooner rather than later.
“Last year, we didn’t open until Boxing Day but that was quite early for us.”
He said December was traditionally an unsettled time, with mixed weather in the run-up to Christmas week.
Conditions are usually ideal throughout January and February, however.
Heavy snow is predicted for the area over the coming days and temperatures are likely to remain below zero.
Visitors are advised to keep a close eye on the ski centre’s website and Facebook page for updates.
A statement posted on the official webpage said: “A good bit of snow has fallen, but more required.
“Continuing snow showers in the forecast could do the job.”
The centre boasts 36 runs and 22 lifts.
Glenshee covers nearly 2,000 acres of slopes across three valleys to the north of Spittal of Glenshee.
Snow has this week closed the A93 Braemar to Spittal of Glenshee road.
