Perth Show hailed as a great success

Despite poor weather on the opening day this year’s Perth Show has been hailed as “a great success.”

A late drama over the granting of a licence for the beer tent was resolved just in time and, from then on, it was plain sailing all the way.

Thousands descended on the South Inch show ground for an event that is now 148 years old.

Once a one-day event, Perth Show developed into a two-day extravaganza due to its enduring popularity.

Among those soaking up the atmosphere and the very welcome sunshine on Saturday was Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser.

He visited a range of exhibitors and stopped off at stalls hosted by organisations including United Auctions and NFU Scotland.

Mr Fraser also took time out to talk with members of the Rotary Club of Perth St Johns as well as meeting local farmers and residents.

Afterwards he paid tribute to the organisers and all who visited.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the directors of the Perthshire Agricultural Society as well as all the exhibitors and competitors at Perth Show,” he said. “They all helped to made the 2010 show a great success.”

Mr Fraser said the event confirmed Perth’s position as a hugely important location for the nation’s farming industry.

“It is a highlight in the calendar for the farming community across Scotland,” he added.

“I would like to congratulate all the winners who took part in events at the show as well as the people of Perth who came along in their thousands to support the show.”

And he is sure the event will continue to go from strength to strength.

“Perth Show is a fantastic event and extremely popular with local residents and people further afield,” he said.

“The sun was out on the Saturday and it was one of the busiest days I have seen at the show. I am sure everybody involved enjoyed a great day out.”
