A family member of the famous Tate & Lyle sugar-producing dynasty appeared in court charged with drink-driving in Perthshire.
Joshua Lyle, 34, is the son of Sir Gavin Lyle, who is a baronet and a greatgrandson of Abram Lyle. Abram Lyle was associated with Lyle’s Golden Syrup.
On Monday, Lyle who appeared in Perth Sheriff Court from custody admitted that, on Sunday on Coupar Angus Road and Golf Course Road, both Blairgowrie, he drove with 114 mics of alcohol.
Depute fiscal Rebecca Kynaston told the court officers saw Lyle driving along Golf Course Road, Blairgowrie, with his car “swerving from side to side” at 12.05am
The court heard that Lyle, of Glendelvine House, Caputh, provided a positive breath test and was then taken to Dundee police HQ.
Sheriff Robert McCreadie called for background reports and handed Lyle an interim driving ban in the meantime.
