A Perthshire councillor has been accused of expenses fraud by allegedly spending more than the allocated amount on his election campaign.
Alan Jack, 74, of the Stables, Moncreiffe, Bridge of Earn, represents the Almond and Earn ward and had his case continued without plea at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Charged under his full name Henry Alan Jack, the independent councillor who did not appear in court faces a charge that, between March 22 and December 26 last year, he incurred election expenses over the maximum amount for the Perth and Kinross Council 2012 local elections by spending £2,066 (the maximum permitted is £1,215.36).
He is facing the charge under the Representation of the People Act 1983, which controls election spending.
The charge alleges Mr Jack “knew or should have known” that his election expenses were in excess of the amount he was allowed to spend.
Mr Jack, a former Conservative politician, won his seat on the council in June through the single transferable vote system.
He serves on Perth and Kinross Council’s enterprise and infrastructure and development management committees as well as their licensing board.
