Arthur Mailer, who had a 46-year career with Post Office in Perth has died aged 87.
Mr Mailer, who was educated at Kinnoull Primary and Balhousie Boys School in Perth, started as a telegraph boy at the age of 14.
He worked his way through different roles including as a postman before getting a job on the counters at the main post office on South Street. He retired in 1985.
Apart from a short spell in Alloa, his entire career was spent with the Post Office in Perth. At 17 he joined the army in the Signals and served for four years before resuming his career.
Mr Mailer played a part in setting up the civil service sports club on Leonard Street and was involved with their move to St Leonard’s Bank.
At one time he managed a football team from the Royal Naval Stores at Almondbank and bowled for the civil service club and latterly played dominoes.
Mr Mailer, of Goodlyburn Place, had Parkinson’s disease for a number of years. He is survived by his wife Joyce and sons Andrew, Bill and George.
