A trusted member of staff who embezzled £1,680 from her employers was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the community.
Margaret Low had been employed at the St Ninian’s Care Home in Blairgowrie for four years and was highly thought of.
Perth Sheriff Court was told that she was entrusted with a bank card that allowed her to shop for small day-to-day items needed by the home.
In November last year, however, she began to use the card to withdraw sums of money for her own use. The discrepancies were spotted when her employers checked the account and, following an investigation, suspicion fell upon Low.
The 26-year-old, of Arthur Street in Blairgowrie, admitted embezzling the money while an employee at the care home by removing the money from various bank machines between November 20 and 30 last year.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told her: “You were in a position of trust and you breached that.
“To have done so is a serious matter, particularly as you were in a senior position.”
