Hungry thief stole charity collection tin from Perth bank

A “mean-spirited” crook has been ordered to repay the charity from which he stole hundreds of pounds.
Desperate for cash after encountering problems with his benefits, Alan Lunn lifted a collection tin from a city centre bank.
Staff at the South Street branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland had spotted the 32-year-old “loitering” near the Children In Need bucket for almost half an hour on November 15 last year.
Later that same day, they noticed the tin thought to contain around £200 had disappeared, but were “too busy” to investigate further.
Two days later, however, the bank’s security team reviewed CCTV footage, which clearly showed Lunn taking the collection. Solicitor Paul Ralph told the court his client had a problem with alcohol and “hadn’t eaten for a couple of days”.
Lunn, of Skinnergate House, Perth, admitted stealing the collection tin. He was fined £160 and ordered to pay compensation of £200 to the Children In Need charity.
